Bandung is the capital of West Java, and the third largest city of Indonesia. Although most visitors to the city are there on business, it's location amid the Parahayangan Mountains grant access to a number of hiking opportunities. Looming over the city is the towering 6,837-foot volcano of Gunung (Mount) Tangkubanparahu, complete with its crater and fumaroles. There are also lovely tea plantations, which make for excellent walks in the countryside.

Sheraton Bandung

This 154-room hotel from the Sheraton chain is one of the few 5-star offerings in the area. There is an outdoor swimming pool, complete with separate children's pool and whirlpool bath. Facilities also include a spa, fitness center, and nice service touches like a shoe-shine stand. There are two bars and one restaurant. However, as is typical with Sheraton hotels, Internet access is limited to the business center and has steep usage fees.

This 3-star hotel won the Sapta Pesona Gold Trophy in 2008. It has an outdoor swimming pool, a public WiFi hot spot, a fitness center, and a massage service. There is a Japanese restaurant, plus a cafe with a more general Western-style and Indonesian menu. Room types range from standard to suite. There is a complimentary airport shuttle, and the train station is about a mile and a half away.

Holiday Inn Bandung

This 146-room Holiday Inn has rooms ranging from singles to suites, and was last renovated in 2006. There is a business center and a WiFi hot spot, although use of the Internet at the later does entail charges. The hotel has an outdoor pool, spa with sauna, a bar and a restaurant.
